351 King Street East in Toronto encompasses half of a downtown city block in the St Lawrence Market district. The unique design of this 17-storey LEED Gold office building with multiple terraces provided an opportunity to create green roofs on various levels. Green roofs are incorporated into terraced amenity spaces as well as the penthouse levels, providing more than 1,200 m2 of green roof over 5 levels. Conditions range from full sun to partially shaded to fully shaded roof areas. The green roofs contribute significantly to the storm water management of the site, increase the efficiency of the cooling systems and contribute to occupant well-being through biophilic design.
