The Cobourg Community Campus is a comprehensive community center developed for the Town of Cobourg in response to increasing populations and the desire to improve community services.
The 11,300m2 building houses two arenas, while the site provides a variety of sports fields. The campus functions cooperatively with an adjacent child care facility, broadening the mix of user groups that are active on the site. Consideration of the environment was key in the development of the site due to an adjacent creek.
The site includes a 105 meter long bioswale, providing 1,000m2 of infiltration area for storm water. Storm water is collected from the parking surfaces for both quality and quantity treatment. This is particularly important as a result of the nearby creek. Native vegetation was incorporated into the bioswale to address this adjacent open space.
