The existing Cooksville GO station has been slated for a major upgrade by Metrolinx in their commitment to provide improved transit in the GTAA. The $128M contract includes re-alignment of rail tracks, construction of a parking structure, new overhead and underground connections between the east and west side of the rail line, new station buildings, additional bus bays, pedestrian plazas, streetscapes, multi-modal active transport circulation, public art and increased parking.
Landscape works require balance between greening for biophilic and environmental benefits, and practicality for the movement of people, operations and maintenance.
Soil cells in the plaza areas are designed to support tree growth and treat storm water.
Underground cisterns also capture roof water for re-use both inside the building and for landscape irrigation. Construction is scheduled to be completed by July 2020.
