The Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation is a living laboratory on Humber’s North Campus, achieving LEED Platinum. The building fronts onto a tree-lined pedestrian corridor, connecting the front of the building to the main bus loop on campus.
The building features two green roof areas for storm water management, student use, mitigation of the urban heat island effect, and reduction in heating/cooling energy use. Raised planters provide an opportunity for research on the roof.
A rain garden along the south face captures storm water and sump pump discharge to reduce the reliance on grey infrastructure.
An outdoor pedestrian cafe on the south side of the building provides exterior space for study, rest and socialization.
