The addition of the Davis Applied Engineering Centre to the Brampton campus of Sheridan College provides teaching and training facilities to train the applied trades. The building is nestled into a space between existing residences and existing educational buildings, creating a large courtyard for use by students in the existing residences as well as other faculty buildings. Occasional vehicular and service access to the courtyard requires a separation of vehicles from pedestrians in a space that is designated primarily for pedestrians.
A variety of outdoor spaces are provided for socialization and recreation.
Sustainability is achieved through the provision of permeable paving for both pedestrian and vehicular surfaces, and a bioswale to collect runoff from parking areas.
Retention of existing trees and the provision of additional native plantings settle the building into the landscape.
