Phase I of the North Park development in Oakville consists of the construction of a 4-pad arena (an Olympic-sized ice pad and three NHL-sized ice pads), restaurants, heated viewing areas, multiple team change rooms, and several multi-purpose rooms.
The LEED Silver facility incorporates low impact development strategies such as bioswales, storm water management ponds, plantings with reduced watering requirements and alternative lawn seed mixes. The entrance features pedestrian scale seating areas in conjunction with a larger, more formal plaza.
The design of the site involves integration with the master-planned sports fields, library, and park facilities through pedestrian connections.
Ensuring a safe pedestrian-oriented environment is key to the success of the project.
