Sixteen Mile Creek Bioswale

Sixteen Mile Creek Sports Complex is the first phase of the North Park development by the Town of Oakville. The development includes a 4-pad arena to meet the growing needs of the Town of Oakville. The LEED silver facility, completed in 2010, incorporates a green infrastructure in place of grey infrastructure. Catch basins and oil grit separators are replaced with bioswales that collect storm water. Excess storm water is delivered to the adjacent storm water management pond.

Kentucky Bluegrass sod was eliminated from the site in favour of terraseeding with a low maintenance lawn mix, resulting in the conservation of thousands of litres of potable water. The low maintenance lawn mix, combined with the use of draught tolerant plant materials and custom soil mixes, has eliminated the need for irrigation, resulting in a sustainable landscape.
